Getting Started with Sip Subscriptions
Welcome to Sip Subscriptions! This guide will walk you through the essential prerequisites and the initial setup process to help you launch your subscription business on Shopify.
Prerequisites
Before you begin the setup, please ensure the following requirements are met:
- App Installation: Confirm Sip Subscriptions is installed on your Shopify store. If you haven’t installed it yet, click here to add the app.
- Payment Gateway: A compatible payment gateway must be enabled. Sip works with Shopify’s supported subscription payment providers (such as Shopify Payments, PayPal Express, or Stripe). You can view the full list in the Shopify Help Center.
Setup Guide (3 Simple Steps)
When you first open Sip Subscriptions, a Setup Guide will appear on your dashboard. Complete these three steps to go live:
Step 1: Create Your First Subscription
Define how your subscriptions will work, including billing intervals and discounts.
- Click "Create Subscription" in the setup guide (or navigate to Plans > New).
- Fill in the details: Give your plan a name, select your products, and set your frequencies (e.g., daily, weekly, monthly).
- Configure pricing: Choose whether to offer a percentage, fixed-amount, or fixed-price discount.
- Save the plan.
Step 2: Enable the Customer Portal
This allows your customers to manage their own subscriptions (skip shipments, update payment methods, etc.). The setup depends on your Shopify Customer Account settings:
| For New Customer Accounts | For Classic Customer Accounts |
| You must enable 4 extension blocks: Profile Page, Order History, Order Status, and Thank You Page. | Click "Add Block" to open the Shopify Theme Editor on your account page. |
| Click "Enable" next to each one to open the Shopify Checkout Editor. | Add the "Manage Subscriptions" block. |
| Note: All 4 blocks must be activated for this step to show as complete. | Save your theme settings. |
Step 3: Add the Widget to Product Pages
The storefront widget allows customers to choose between a one-time purchase or a subscription directly on the product page.
- Click "Open Theme Editor" to go to your product template.
- Add the Sip Subscriptions widget block to your product page (typically near the "Add to Cart" button).
- Customize: Adjust colors, fonts, and spacing to match your brand's aesthetic.
- Save.
Finalizing Your Setup
Once all three steps are finished, you can dismiss the setup guide by clicking the "X" button. It will not appear again, but you can always fine-tune your settings (such as dunning rules, stock forecasts, or custom email notifications) via the Sip dashboard.
