Subscriptions Overview (How Subscriptions Work)
Sip Subscriptions allows your customers to subscribe to products and receive them automatically on a recurring basis — making it easier for them to stay stocked, and for you to build consistent, predictable revenue.
Recurring subscriptions are a great way to increase customer retention, offer convenience, and streamline reordering for products people use regularly.
How it works
Once a customer starts a subscription, everything runs automatically based on the delivery interval they select (e.g. weekly, monthly).
For example, if a customer subscribes to a product with a monthly delivery schedule:
- They’ll be charged automatically every month
- An order is created in Shopify just like any other order
- The product is fulfilled and shipped as usual
- This continues until the customer pauses, updates, or cancels their subscription
Key things to know
- Customers can manage their subscriptions directly from their account page
- You can customize available delivery intervals in the Sip dashboard
- Orders created through subscriptions behave exactly like standard Shopify orders
- Subscriptions help build customer loyalty and create a more seamless buying experience

Subscription Types
Sip supports two flexible subscription models, so you can choose the best fit for your products and business goals.
1. Standard Subscriptions
This is the most common and straightforward model. A customer subscribes to a product and receives it on a regular schedule — for example, every 2 weeks or once a month. They are charged before each delivery.
Best for:
- Products customers use frequently (e.g. coffee, snacks, pet food, vitamins)
- Building long-term relationships and generating recurring revenue

2. Prepaid Subscriptions
With prepaid subscriptions, the customer pays upfront for multiple upcoming deliveries — like a 3-month or 6-month plan. Orders are then fulfilled over time without additional charges.
Best for:
- Curated boxes, seasonal kits, gift subscriptions
- Customers looking for convenience or bulk savings
Why it works:
- Improves cash flow
- Reduces churn with upfront commitment
- Ideal for bundling or promotions
